Abstract:
Acclaimed author Chinua Achebe stands out today not only for a trove of great novels but for his full-frontal attack on the western narrative that claimed Africa had no history. Through his novels and books he exposed Europe's devastating colonial legacy and in the case of Nigeria, how completely the Ibo culture was destroyed by the arrival of Christian missionaries and the district commissioner. Our panel will present some of the next generation of story tellers and activists who fight to "keep the oil in the soil", end the foreign appropriation of African resources, end land grabs and vulture capitalism.
