Consumer Solidarity for Food Workers & Growers

Panel Abstract:

Founded after 9/11 by displaced WTC workers, the Restaurant Opportunities Center (ROC) has grown into a national restaurant workers' organization with 7000 members in eight urban areas. ROC is building solidarity between restaurant workers, employers, and consumers for a more sustainable food system. Through worker-owned cooperative restaurant development, local, state and federal policy work, partnerships with consumer groups and local farmers, promotion of sustainable restaurant employers, and more, ROC is building a national and international movement to tie sustainable working conditions to healthy, local, sustainable, environmentally-friendly food service. Similarly, Just Food and other food justice organizations are working in partnership with ROC to build consumer solidarity for CSA's and sustainable growers. Please come to this INTERACTIVE workshop and help us figure out how to design creative forms of reaching the hearts, minds, and stomachs of every American diner by 2012!
