Abstract:
If the world is burning, and if we are to "bring to birth a new world from the ashes of the old," how do we do that? The uprising that began in 2011 has increased participation in direct action, constitutional reform efforts, cooperative development, participatory budgeting, and most recently, independent politics. These elements form the basis of a broader movement for democracy in the United States. Yet that movement still lacks clear definition. This roundtable discussion challenges us to articulate an immediate program for transition to a secure, sustainable, and just future.
