Panel Proposal Information
Abstract:
From various perspectives and with emphasis on different countries, this panel seeks to bring Marxist theory to bear on the nature of North African societies, from Egypt to Morocco, Tunisia to Libya. What is the meaning of recent rebellions and transformations? How does capitalist neoliberalism and opposition to it play out on North African terrain? Is the Arab awakening a revolt against corrupt anomalies, or rather a systemic confrontation with the international capitalist world-system?
