Abstract:
This panel is part one of a two-part eco-feminist panel session. We begin with the premise that a transition to an eco-socialist world society is possible only to the extent that the movement and the results are eco-feminist in character. These two panels critically analyze a range of contemporary social movements and problems in 21st century political economy. Our aim is to contribute eco-feminist insights into ways forward out of the converging crises of global capitalism.
Panel One focuses on power and counter-power in mining communities, among ‘peasant’ farmers – North and South, and in the global occupy movement. One of the questions addressed is the extent to which a post-fossil fuel world is prefigured in contemporary eco-feminist struggles.
