Abstract:
The Occupy Wall Street movement has shifted our national conversation away from budget deficits to economic inequality, much the same way Michael Harrington’s book, The Other America, did fifty years ago. What is the role of the democratic left in this new milieu and how can we continue building a movement for social and economic justice and democracy? How can we use the opportunities created by Occupy to strike back against the neoliberal consensus and show that the war on poverty did not fail but was left unfinished.
