Abstract:
Imagine Wisconsin, University of California Berkeley, Keystone Pipeline, and the Occupy Movement, all taking place on a 35-by-100 mile island. That’s Puerto Rico today.
The last few years has seen an upsurge in mass movements in Puerto Rico encompassing labor, student, women’s, environmental and anti-colonial sectors. The resistance has been provoked by the current governor of the island, Luis Fortuño, a poster child for the extreme right-wing of the Republican Party and a Tea Party favorite. This panel will analyze various aspects of the current situation in America’s backyard colony.
