Abstract:
Does the corporate capitalist way of life necessarily involve notions of personal or corporate property? Corporate capitalism requires seemingly endless growth and endless theft of the land, water, even lives of human beings as well as other life forms. Corporate capitalist thinking embeds in the lives of those who wish power as well as in the lives of those trying to protect themselves against the grab of land, water, mind, property, media, legislature, elections, voting rights, judiciary, health, and strength to fight back. We'll discuss the uses of language in such an environment, theft of language, of ideas, copyright, what is the commons, and, of course, what to do. Are SOPA/PIPA really bad news? We'll look at ways to throw off the occupation of our language, political systems, sense of right and wrong, even our thoughts.
