Description/Abstract of your Event:

We are now in the midst of an epoch of death and mass extinction. Conventional approaches are failing. Social and ecological regeneration must be rooted in communities of liberation and solidarity. The new book, Between Earth and Empire: From the Necrocene to the Beloved Community, by celebrated philosopher and educator John P. Clark explores significant recent progress in this direction, including indigenous movements of the Zapatistas in Chiapas, Democratic Autonomy Movement in Rojava, in West Papua, and many more. Longtime human rights activist, educator, organizer Matt Meyer joins this conversation with his own work on international and intersectional organizing. This is a call to arms for the rebirth of a libertarian and communitarian social imaginary, and the flourishing of a free cooperative community globally. Join us!

Conveners of the Coalition for Peace, Revolution, and Social Justice will review the formation of a new Los Angeles anti-war coalition: How it was formed, how it operates, what sort of progress has been made, where is it headed?

Description/Abstract of your Event:

For at least five hundred years of global colonial occupation and imperial plunder, the devaluation, abuse, and exploitation of womxn has gone hand-in-hand with the depletion and degradation of the Earth. By the same token, however, Indigenous, peasant, racially marginalized, and other womxn targeted by cishteropatriarchy and anthropocentrism have been on the frontlines of mobilizations for broad-based autonomy, dignity, equity, justice, and sustainability, from the Chipko movement of India to the neo-Zapatista uprising of southwestern Mexico. As interlocking global crises intensify, the ecofeminist alternatives articulated by these womxn become more important than ever to the fight for another world. This panel will feature reportbacks on ecofeminist interventions from the Americas and South Asia. Its presenters will discuss how community gardens and urban farms, permaculture and agroecology projects, biodiversity farms, traditional medical practices, and counter-hegemonic learning initiatives across these parts of the world are recentering multiply marginalized womxn at the same time as they address pressing threats to land, food, and water sovereignty.

Washington has a long history of seeking to overthrow North Korea, even before their murderous war on DPRK that killed one quarter of the population, according to US Generals. We will discuss the effect of the war on Korean consciousness, US sanctions and threats against North Korea since that time, counter some of the fake news in the corporate media over the recent period, and the movement against war in Korea today. All the speakers have been to North Korea. Medea Benjamin was part of the Women Cross the DMZ peace delegation. Deirdre Griswold has been to both Koreas several times, the first being a meeting with Kim Il Sung. Stan Smith has written several articles exposing US disinformation against North Korea.

Description/Abstract of your Event:

We are PhD students working in the realm of immigration with diverse positionalities, disciplines, methodologies, levels of focus, and research contexts, as well as traditionally understood identities (race and ethnicity, languages spoken, gender expression, country of origin). Our Moderated Dialogue embodies an anti-hierarchical, Bakhtinian approach to scholarship as an ongoing, polyphonic, future-making collaboration, signifying a disruption to traditional academic authority. As emerging immigration scholars with a variety of experiences, commitments, and visions in our work, we propose a transdisciplinary challenge to paternalistic, U.S.-centric ways of doing immigration scholarship. We will present our diverse research, which takes place across three continents, and identify key topics to be discussed, including the dialectics of local and transnational positionality, racialization and racialized experiences across borders, the complex relationship between sending and receiving countries, ethics in nonprofit education, and the complexities of volunteerism and national identity. This strategic project is an extension of our already powerful dialogical work as colleagues, and we look forward to sharing this radical methodology of knowledge production to inspire new, dynamic ways of approaching scholarship as a shared, transformative experience that values all voices and visions.

Description/Abstract of your Event:

There have been many legal actions connected to the 9/11 attacks. There have been two government sponsored investigations. However, none of these efforts have dealt with an entire category which is standard to most investigations – the physical evidence. Now a new phase has commenced.
The nonprofit public interest organization, the Lawyers’ Committee for 9/11 Inquiry, Inc. has filed a Petition with the U. S. Attorney in the Southern District of New York formally requesting, pursuant to federal statute, that he present to a special grand jury extensive evidence of thus-far unprosecuted federal crimes relating to the destruction of three World Trade Center (WTC) Towers on 9/11/01. The evidence presented in the Petition and the exhibits thereto is considered by the Lawyers’ Committee, after careful evaluation, to be conclusive.
To be clear, the organization is not making any accusations or alleging anything other than well-founded evidence exists which the government has a duty to evaluate and act on.
In the Petition, the Lawyers’ Committee explains that the U. S. Attorney is legally required to present the evidence submitted to a grand jury. The 52-page Petition, accompanied by 57 exhibits, presents extensive scientific and eye-witness evidence that explosives were used to destroy three WTC buildings on 9/11, including:
1) Independent scientific laboratory analysis of WTC dust samples showing the presence of high-tech explosives and/or incendiaries in the form of thermite or thermate.
2) Testimony of numerous New York firefighters who were 9/11 First Responders that they heard sounds of explosions and saw explosions on 9/11 at the WTC resembling controlled demolitions, and some reported seeing molten iron like in a foundry.
3) Testimony and scientific analysis by numerous architects, engineers, physicists, and chemists which demonstrates conclusively that the WTC Twin Towers and WTC Building 7 were brought down by use of explosives and incendiaries, not by airplane impacts or the resulting jet fuel and building fires.
4) Expert analysis of seismic evidence that explosions occurred at the WTC towers on 9/11 prior to the airplane impacts, and prior to the building collapses.
The Petition presents scientific reports and testimony explaining that the documented presence of molten iron proves that temperatures were present at Ground Zero much higher than those that jet fuel and building contents could create when burned, extreme temperatures consistent with use of the high tech explosive and incendiary materials called thermite and thermate.
The Petition also presents scientific reports and testimony explaining that the presence of previously molten iron microspheres, which have been established as present in the WTC dust in large quantities by electron microscope analysis of WTC dust samples, by both government and independent scientists, is scientifically impossible based on the burning of jet fuel and office contents alone but would be expected from the use of thermite or thermate.
Join us for an in-depth look into the evolution of this effort and the actual research a grand jury has been asked to assess and take action on.
