Description/Abstract of your Event:

What is needed most in the world today, is a strong coalition of activists, from all sources, and support from international institutions, to fight injustices. For example, in the Bedouin struggle against annihilation, in the West Bank, activists from many countries converged in August and September 2018, to form a united front against the Israeli occupation forces threatening to destroy Bedouin villages, and to forcibly transfer them to inadequate locations, i.e. garbage dumps, sewage plants, etc. Those activists, people of all faiths, came from all over the world to link with local Palestinians, going all out against the occupation, i.e. standing in front of bulldozers, engaging in sit-ins, etc. in the Bedouin villages in the West Bank. A pivotal moment came when the European Parliament adopted a resolution last September, calling Israel's decision to demolish and transfer the West Bank Bedouin village of al Khan al-Ahmar. . . a breach of international humanitarian law. The ICC prosecutor weighed-in a month later. She, alluding to the threatened destruction of that village, stated that extensive destruction of property without military necessity and population transfers in an occupied territory constitute war crimes under the Rome Statute. So, activists and international organizations together provide effective and necessary pressure on countries to refrain from committing serious crimes against innocent people!
