Born in Guadalajara, Mx. In December 2008, Chicago’s Republic Window and Door, was told by its creditor, Bank of America (a recent recipient of a bailout), that it could shut without giving workers contracted pay. Workers occupied the plant claiming “You (Bank of America) got bailed out; we got sold out.” Caught in the middle, then-candidate Obama had to heed the workers. Our workers’ economy panelist, United Electrician Armando Robles, active in the occupation and in the network, helped cooperativize the firm which now operates successfully as New Era Windows. As US workers’ recuperated factory paradigm, it is living proof of worker power.
