Biography: 

Marie-Claire Picher is a Theater of the Oppressed trainer and popular educator who worked and collaborated closely with Augusto Boal, founder of the Theater of the Oppressed, until his death in 2009. She is a founding member of the New York City-based Theater of the Oppressed Laboratory (TOPLAB) (1990) (www.toplab.org) and the Institute of Popular Education at the Brecht Forum (1992), and was the Executive Director of the Brecht Forum/New York Marxist School for four years (1989-93). She has presented thousands of hours of training workshops in New York and throughout the United States as well as in Cuba; Guatemala; Mexico City; and in the Mexican State of Chiapas in autonomous Zapatista communities. She is also Associate Professor Emerita of French at the College of Mount Saint Vincent in Riverdale, New York. cpicher@toplab.org
