Biography: 

Xiomara is the Project Director of the Hurricane Maria Community Relief & Recovery Fund (the Maria Fund) since November 2018. The Maria Fund was launched in September 2017 to help communities hit hardest by the storm. In the immediate aftermath, the Maria Fund distributed emergency funds to several community-based organizations, and since then has continued to mobilize resources to support community organizing initiatives fighting to guarantee and just and equitable recovery of the island. In 2016, Xiomara joined the Organizing and Capacity Building Team at CPD, providing training and infrastructure support to partner organizations across the US.

Before joining CPD, she was the Executive Director of the Youth Development Institute for 2 years, a new child and youth advocacy organization created by the leaders of Boys & Girls Clubs of Puerto Rico (BGCPR). At BGCPR she worked for 3 years leading their fundraising and government affairs, and previously at the Puerto Rico Community Foundation. She comes out of the student movement strikes at the University of Puerto Rico in 2010 and 2011, where thousands of students organized against tuition hikes and national austerity measures. She holds a Juris Doctor from the Law School of the University of Puerto Rico and a Bachelor's Degree in Public Relations from the University of Florida. She lives in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
