2017
Description/Abstract of your Event:

We will paint a picture of the history and political stakes of the ongoing austerity and one-sided class warfare in the CUNY system. We argue that the defunding of CUNY, the adjunctification of teaching work, and the powerlessness of the Professional Staff Congress in part derived from the lack of a broad-based movement uniting the interests of the various tiers of the workforce with the interests of CUNY students and the overwhelmingly working class communities of color from which they come. We will discuss our efforts to lay the seeds for such a movement, the obstacles we have encountered, and the inroads we have made. A particular point of focus will be a recent chapter election in the PSC, where we ran a slate against the incumbents in a spirited campaign.
