Room:
1.75
Timeslot:
SATURDAY June 3rd Session 2: 12:00pm - 1:50pm
Abstract:
Trump has built on Obama's deportation machine to massively escalate raids and deportations. He has unleashed ICE agents, giving them a blank check, and has given confidence to far-right racist xenophobes. This has created massive fear in the immigrant community while at the same time compelling mass numbers of people to want to fight these attacks. But the immigrant rights movement has been set back on its heels after 8 years of retreat under Obama and the intensity of the attacks can be overwhelming. This panel will talk about what it will take to build the infrastructure and political capacity necessary to effectively resist raids and deportation. It will discuss efforts to build emergency response networks in different communities.

"My heart is breaking, not just for my husband, but for all the families currently losing loved ones to these awful ICE raids,” Sandra told the press after Otto’s deportation.
